Rules
The game is split into rounds, usually 4-5 per stream.
A screen of sixteen possible answers (to a question such as “Which of these inventions were discovered by accident?”) are shown – eleven are correct, the first awarding 1 point, then 2, etc. up to 11 for the last answer. The points stack, so if you get 11 correct answers you score 66 points (11+10+9+8+7+6+5+4+3+2+1), which encourages people to take risks.
The other five answers were incorrect, and hitting one of these so-called “Wipeouts” loses all your points from the round.
You can submit up to 11 answers per game. Should you only be confident with 1 answer then submit 1. If you are confident with 11, submit 11.
At the end of every round, the individual(s) who scores the most points is added to the raffle at the end of the stream. The points are banked at the end of each round as well.
Question Writing
I’ve prepared a spreadsheet to submit a question. All I need are 1 question (in the form of a punchy title and a description), 16 answers (11 right, 5 wrong) and any other information associated with it.
Question Writing Tips
- Give the title something punchy that should provide a clue as to what the question is about. As this is fairly new I may stick the questions on the wheel, or I may give preference to audience written questions.
- For the actual question, give context in some way. So for example if the answer is taken from a survey, tell me when the survey was taken, or if there’s data up to a certain date, specify it in the question (so if you write “as of 25th April, 2021”). Anything to clarify the question is great.
- As a guide, most people should get between 1-3 answers (I recommend putting 1-2 answers on the board that are gimmies). 4-8 is what people with a broad general knowledge should get. Anything more than that is a specialised knowledge in that field.
- Try to avoid questions that require a particular country’s knowledge to know. It can be based in that country, but known for people outside of that country (so for example, if you have a “Which of these are a team that have played in the English Premier Leagiue?” question that should be fine, “Which of these are a team that have played in the North West Counties Division 1 North?” probably not).
- Try to avoid trick answers. They can lead to discussions and it can get a bit awkward. Something that’s obvious a fault that can catch people out are fine but anything that could lead to me (and also you) defending the question in chat is bad.
- Give me factoids on the answers is helpful and aids the stream. So for example, if the question is “Which of these teams have won the FA Cup?” and one of the answers is “Cardiff City”, having a factoid like “won in 1927, beat Arsenal in the final – the only Welsh team to win it” is great.
- It’s really fun if the wrong answers tie into the right answers in some way.
- If you wrote the question, please don’t answer it on stream! I am currently thinking of a way of rewarding question writers.
- I’ll change the order of questions, so if you don’t get your question asked it’s because we’ve had one or two of the same subject come in. Please don’t take it personally.
